Your best chance for success - 20 minutes of CPR

20forlife logo

Earlier this year, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority put in place a new protocol, aimed to improve outcomes when someone's heart stop and they aren't breathing.

According to the American Heart Association and medical studies, the best thing you can do for someone whose heart has stopped is to provide 20 minutes of uninterrupted CPR. We call it :20 minutes for Life - and we want every patient whose heart stops to get those minutes. That is why we will be treating the patient where they are, not rushing to the hospital. CPR saves lives and the sooner it is started, the greater the chance of survival.

KCEAA is the first EMS agency in West Virginia to put this protocol in place. Other agencies throughout the nation are currently performing this protocol.
